Westerhope School Extension was part of the Newcastle PFI Schools Project for Bovis Lend Lease Ltd.
Having successfully completed other contacts under the PFI Project, Northern Construction Solutions were invited by Bovis to negotiate the Westerhope extension acting as Main and Principal Contractor for the civil and building works.
Northern Construction Solutions assisted the PFI Project Team in developing the final solution for the works and agreed a lump sum price prior to commencement on site.
Briefly, the works consisted of a 500m² extension comprising four new classrooms, music room, an IT Suite, new kitchen facilities, girls and boys toilets, additional car parking and remodelling the hard landscaping areas.
The works were completed during term time from April to August. Throughout the works, Northern Construction Solutions maintained the safety of the school pupils and staff and also the uninterrupted operation of the school curriculum. This was predominantly achieved by developing close working relationships with all parties involved during the contact.
Works were successfully handed over on time and to budget and to the satisfaction of the teaching staff and pupils.
