The contract required the construction of a new pumped drainage system
to remove oil and other contaminants out of the run off from the Fire
Training Ground and convey cleaned run off to the local rising main for
treatment by Northumbrian Water Ltd.
The project involved working within the confines of a live airfield environment
under strict operational restrictions for the laying of a new 90mm HPPE
main approximately 800m long. This emanated from a new separator and pumping
station on the airfield through to a new tie in to an existing NWL rising
main. The main having to be kept live at all times throughout the removal
of a section and fitting of new tee piece and valve.
Value engineering of the works in conjunction with Consultant Engineers,
Arup, enabled the scheme to be achieved within the Client’s budgetary
and programme constraints.
