The contract involved the refurbishment and renewal of the various structures
comprising the outfall of Barmston Drain into the River Hull. Flow had
to be maintained in the drain at all times and the flood defences secured
against the 7m tidal range of the River Hull.
The scope of work included:
- Replacement of timber tidal doors with new
- Replacement / refurbishment of steel sluice gate with new
- Removal of old weed screens
- Piled foundations for new weed screens
- Fabrication and installation of new weed screens
- Manufacture and installation of new concrete stop logs
- Repairs to concrete pile capping beam
- Design of weed screens, foundations and timber doors
The alternative design solutions proposed by Northern Construction Solutions, including steel piles in lieu of reinforced concrete foundations,
were incorporated into the scheme and significantly reduced the environmental
impact of the works whilst generating considerable cost benefits for the
client.
